Maggots

While maggots may be nature's clean-up crew, they are not welcome in our spaces!

Maggots are basically the larvae of flies, and they’re like the ultimate party crashers. They show up uninvited, make a mess, and leave you wondering how they got there in the first place.

The most common maggots in homes come from houseflies and bluebottle flies, and they love to hang out in trash, feces, and carrion—basically, anywhere there’s a buffet waiting for them.

These little critters hatch from eggs laid by mature flies, which can drop between 75 to 150 eggs at a time. It only takes 7 to 24 hours for these eggs to turn into wriggling maggots, so if you’ve got flies buzzing around, it’s likely that maggots are on the guest list soon.

But don’t worry, keeping your home clean and regularly taking out the trash can help keep these unwanted dinner guests from showing up in the first place!
